Between March 5th and 7th seventeen current Inbound students and seventeen future Outbound students gathered at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park on Fort Lauderdale beach. In addition we had four former Outbounds (now called Rebounds) and two foreign visitors. The event was both fun and serious. On Saturday morning the first ever "Volleyball Challenge" was held between the Inbounds and Outbounds, with the loosers serving the winners dinner Saturday night after an afternoon on Fort LAuderdale beach. The winners? The Inbounds in the best 2 out of 3 games by a 2 to 1 score. And each Inbound really enjoyed having his or her own personal waiter and eating with real utensils (the Outbound had to use plastic!) And the serious part came Saturday night with a campfire discussion about the good and bad of being an Exchange Student, and for the Outbounders getting their country assignments. Of the 40+ people who had gathered for the weekend there were approximately 20 nationalities represented, and everyone came away with new friends and a better understanding for what was ahead, Inbound and Outbound alike. The following are some images of the event. |
